LoL Worlds Betting Guide by Rivalry | Schedule, Format, Teams

LoL Worlds, also known as the League of Legends World Championship, is widely considered the pinnacle of League of Legends esports, attracting crowds far and wide, online and in-person, to watch the action unfold.

It's an annual professional competition that lasts around five weeks, beginning on October 10 until November 19. This year, it's bringing 22 of the best LoL teams to South Korea for the first time in five years, with previous tournaments in the US, China, and Europe.

LoL Worlds has a beautiful history as the competition draws closer to the 13th edition. Each year, it provides a great show and a spectacle for LoL fans, alongside numerous betting opportunities. Do you want to spice up your LoL Worlds viewing? Pick Rivalry as your #1 trusted LoL Worlds betting site!

LoL Worlds History

The first edition of the League of Legends World Championship occurred in Sweden in 2011, just two years after the game was released. Many competitive games never reach this level. Instead of becoming esports, they continue to be played casually or die out after several years. But League of Legends rapidly gained popularity and started to be played professionally. By 2012, it already had the LoL World Championship with a total prize pool of $2 million.

The growth was driven by multiple factors and not just by the excellent qualities of the game. LoL is a successor of a Warcraft III game mod known as Defense of the Ancients, whose community largely transitioned to it after its release in 2009.

The first LoL Worlds event was won by Fnatic and the second one by Taipei Assassins. However, by establishing the Chinese and South Korean leagues, these two regions took over the game completely. Combined, they have won the last nine editions of LoL Worlds.

So far, the most successful team in the history of the LoL World Championship has been T1, previously known as SK Telekom T1. This organization has participated in four Grand Finals and won three of them. LoL Worlds 2022 took place in Mexico City and was won by DRX in a shocking finale, beating T1 to the punch.

How LoL Worlds Works

All regions participating in LoL Worlds 2023.

LoL Worlds is a yearly event featuring some of the best teams on the planet. These teams come from the official regions: LPL, LCK, LEC, LCS, PCS, LJL, LLA, CBLOL, and PCL.

The first four are the most important of these regions: LPL, LCK, LEC, and LCS. They correspond to China, South Korea, Europe, and North America. The amount of seeds each region gets is decided by Riot Games and depends on their performance at previous international tournaments.

The seeds for LoL Worlds 2023 look like this. There will be one additional slot for either LCS/LEC, determined through a Worlds Qualifying Series game between Team BDS and Golden Guardians on October 9 before LoL Worlds officially begins.

  • China (LPL): Four Seeds
  • Korea (LCK): Four Seeds
  • Europe (LEC): Three Seeds
  • North America (LCS): Three Seeds
  • Southeast Asia (PCS): Two Seeds
  • Vietnam (VCS): Two Seeds
  • Brazil (CBLOL): One Seed
  • Japan (LJL): One Seed
  • Latin America (LLA): One Seed

LoL Worlds Betting Guide

League of Legends Worlds matches are always spicier if you bet on them, but getting started with LoL Worlds betting can be overwhelming when you're getting started.

Play the game yourself!

LoL is free to download and play, so you can see how it works firsthand. This is by far the best way to learn how the game works. What are the obvious meta champions right now, who are throw picks, and which dragons have the best buffs? These valuable questions will give you insight when placing your LoL Worlds bets and give you an upper hand over others.

Follow the draft carefully before each match takes place.

The champions picked by each team determine a lot about individual games and their results. You can use your big-brain game knowledge to make an educated wager about which team will win based on their initial champion selection!

Study the game’s professional circuit.

You should pay particular attention to its four major regions: China, South Korea, Europe, and North America, as these are historically the most successful and popular. The first two of these regions have been the strongest in recent years. But the world of professional League of Legends changes quickly! Always watch the latest LoL news and pay attention to free online sources like Leaguepedia and Twitter for the newest info on teams and roster changes.

Follow pundits/LoL content creators.

Each year, before the hype of Worlds, the best esports pundits usually start creating content about the tournament and its favorite teams to win. You will find plenty of analysis videos on YouTube, offering a unique perspective you may not have considered before!

Analyzing VODs of previous tournaments will also give you valuable insights into how each team performs under pressure!

Choose the right LoL Worlds betting sites!

This is a super important tip; finding the best LoL Worlds betting sites can be the difference between you bagging a jackpot, or going home with nothing. Keep an eye out for websites that are fully-licensed, trusted, regulated, that will put your online safety first with no dodgy features. -cough- I'd say Rivalry fits the bill!
