Telling tales of esports, one word at a time, six years and counting

June 22nd, 2020

The Regional Major Rankings will determine which teams get to participate in the $2 million Rio Major, the biggest CS:GO event of 2020. Performances across multiple Regional Major Ranking events are taken into consideration in a calendar ravaged by the coronavirus pandemic. Which teams are leading the Regional Major Rankings and which tournaments count for RMR points?

What is the Regional Major Rankings system?

Seeing how much time would pass between the Berlin and Rio Majors, Valve opted to scrap the standard invitation of the last Major's top finishes. For Rio, performances at dedicated Regional Major Ranking Series will be used to decide which teams will participate in the biggest Valve-sponsored tournament in history.

Regional Major Rankings tournaments

Three Regional Major Rankings tournaments will determine which teams make it to the Rio Major, with a portion of the Berlin 2019 performances also taken into account for the teams at a smaller margin. Certain tournament organizers will host the RMR event for every region while others may only feature European and North American teams with other organizers taking care of the rest of the world in separate competitions (PAL Summer and PAL Fall). Roster changes will cause points deductions their total at the time.

The three main Regional Major Rankings tournaments are as follows:
