Dota 2 6.80: Terrorblade and Phoenix

On January 29, 2014, Icefrog and the other demigods of Valve rolled out the 6.80 patch as part of the New Bloom Festival, adding both Terrorblade and Phoenix to Dota 2. Here is everything you need to know about these heroes!
Terrorblade is the demon marauder, the most frightening of its kind and one of the most monstrous enemies to face at the tail end of a Dota game. Like some sort of inhuman Prometheus, he stole from the Demon Lords, and went on to break every hellish law there was. His reward was an eternal sentence in the infernal prison of Foulfell, a dark mirror of reality where you forever gaze into a version of your soul twisted into knots by playing against smurfs forever and ever. Terrorblade mastered this inner beast, and once he broke loose of the hellish catacombs, went on to become the most ferocious of hard carries across the servers. Reflection and the rest of his abilities all reflect this origin story and serves as a truly demonic tool in the right hands.
Alongside Miracle, it’s Arteezy and Ramzes who have the most notable records with the hero, the VP veteran currently posing as an Evil Genius posting a 60.32% winrate across 63 pro games. Beyond this triumvirate, it showed up in 2473 pro matches overall, going so often where angels fear to tread.
Terrorblade was one of the heroes which originate from DotA 1. In those dark and copyrighted days, he was known as Soul Keeper, using Illidan Stormrage’s model. He was also known as Anti-Mage’s brother, a reference which was cut for the second game in the series
The second hero from 6.80 is Phoenix, an infant son of suns taking the sort of fiery form you’d expect from a character of its kind. A ranged hero with many ways to play, and iconic abilities like the Icarus Dive and Supernova, it’s been a source of many memorable moments in professional matches. Of course, the nova also serves as a permanent source of angst with Aghanim’s Scepter: will your teammate save you in the moment or darkness, or troll you out of the game with the greatest fireball of them all?
Phoenix is one of those heroes where the pro players have a better win percentage than the entire population. Perhaps the most notable pro Phoenix players in Dota 2 are Kaka, Fly and Fy.
A dark demon and a burning bird, Terrorblade and Phoenix both played a huge role in Dota 2 history – and surely many more tales will be told with them on the stage in the future of the game.
